Educational sessions at LightSPEC West allow attendees to earn CEU credits from subject-matter experts well-versed in architectural lighting-related topics.
Scheduled for April 17-18 at the Anaheim Convention Center, LightSPEC West provides an opportunity for attendees to view innovative new products, gain valuable knowledge about trending technologies, and network with Southern California agencies and national lighting manufacturers on the exhibit floor.
The conference program includes hour-long AIA-approved courses and 30-minute product demonstrations.
“Health & Wellness: How Lighting Influences Well-Being,” a one-hour session presented by Kara Alexzander, DACM, CNC, Lac, will delve into the significance of color temperature, TM-30 evaluation, lumen output and color rendering in shaping our experiences with lighting. “Lighting is not just about what we see; it’s about how we feel, think, and function. It has the power to shape our well-being and productivity through its profound influence on our body’s autonomic functions,” Alexzander said. “Understanding this intricate relationship between lighting, our senses, and brain response can lead us to create environments that optimize human well-being, productivity, and even hormone balancing.”
A dynamic. one-hour panel discussion will answer the question: Can we comply with California’s energy code, meet the owner’s project objectives, and be cost-effective? Michael Scalzo, the executive director of NLCAA-CET, and Lawrence O. Lamontagne, a regional sales manager for lighting at Crestron Electronics, will apply their extensive knowledge of Title 24, Part 6, and the WELL building standard during their discussion, “Compliance and Enforcement: Will It Be Ripped Out?” Attendees can learn about common pitfalls in design, installation, testing and inspection, and the speakers will offer strategies to ensure compliance while minimizing project disruptions.
The role that luminaire-level lighting controls (LLLC) can play in “Building Brilliance: Integrated Controls for Smart and Healthy Spaces” is the focus of a one-hour session on Thursday. Angela Pilant, a senior lighting specialist at Evergreen Consulting Group, will explain how the LLLC platform creates opportunities to monitor and adjust the quality of light, ventilation, thermal health, safety and security. The session will include case studies from buildings that have successfully installed LLLCs and integrated systems to create smart, healthier spaces focused on occupants.
Artificial intelligence is shaping every corner of business, and the lighting industry is not immune. In “Lighting Specification and Procurement in the Age of AI, Forest Flager, the CEO of Parspec, will explore the potential of AI to transform how lighting is specified and procured in a one-hour session. Attendees can gain perspective on the business implications for specifiers, sales agents and distributors in terms of workforce management, growth and competitiveness in the age of AI.
Among the product demonstrations, Tom Fischer and Mark Olerud of Kore Controls will explain the benefits of “Crestron Zum: Lighting Controls Made Easy” in a 30-minute session. The commercial lighting controls can be used for any dimming type with a simple configuration.
