On Business Week Magazine’s website, this interesting item: East Japan Rail spent $170,000 in October to install special LED lighting on 29 station platforms along one of its busiest routes. The reason? They believe the blue light will reduce suicides of people jumping on the tracks. Check it out here.

Cree, Inc. has been selected to provide LED lighting to Walmart for new stores and renovations. Walmart plans to install Cree LRP-38 LED lamps in 650 stores during the first year, replacing ceramic metal halide in the produce and electronics departments. Cree, Inc. recently announced record revenue of $169.1 million for its first quarter of fiscal 2010, ended September 27, 2009. This represents a 20% increase compared to revenue of $140.4 million reported for the first fiscal quarter last year and a 14% increase compared to the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009.
