Eaton recently announced the call for entries for the 42nd Annual SOURCE Awards, Eaton’s lighting design competition dedicated to celebrating the next generation of lighting professionals and building the pipeline of industry talent. University students studying architecture, design, engineering or related disciplines are invited to enter this conceptual design competition focused on furthering the understanding, knowledge and function of lighting as a primary element in design. The deadline to submit entries is February 25, 2019.
The Illuminating Engineering Society recently announced a total of 14 projects receiving the highest honors at the 2018 IES Illumination Awards. More than 200 projects were recognized with Awards of Merit.
Nearly 500 lighting professionals and guests recently attended the 2018 Lumen West Awards gala. Hosted by the Illuminating Engineering Society Los Angeles Section (IESLA), the program celebrated excellence in lighting design and encouraged the next generation of lighting designers with a record-breaking $36,000 in scholarships awarded.
LEDVANCE supported this year’s annual LED design competition at UC Davis Department of Design with the latest in SYLVANIA SMART+ lighting. Design students at UC Davis developed and prototyped actual luminaires that use these controllable LED sources to explore issues associated with optics, color control, and human interface design. The winner was Jennifer Place, who recently graduated with a double major in Art History and Design.
Current, powered by GE recently announced the winners of the 2018 GE Edison Awards at LIGHTFAIR. The awards, traditionally focused on lighting design, changed this year to focus on end-users.
LIGHTFAIR kicked off with the LFI Innovation Awards, which honors innovative new lighting products introduced over the previous 12 months. The Most Innovative Product of the Year award went to the NU Vector Series downlight Alphabet Lighting, a division of LEDRAbrands. This downlight offers dynamic beam shaping, full tilting, and full wireless control via an app or wall control.
The International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD) recently announced the winners of the 35th Annual International Lighting Design Awards, which recognized 17 diverse projects of exceptional quality. Accepting the Radiance Award for Excellence in Lighting Design, the highest level award, were Stephanie Grosse-Brockhoff and Andreas Schulz, IALD, part of the project team from Licht Kunst Licht for the German Ivory Museum in Erbach, Germany.
The Illuminating Engineering Society has announced its 2018 Progress Report is now open to submissions. IES is looking for significant new advancements in lighting products, research, publications, and design tools from the past year.
