Fagerhult, a Swedish lighting company, has introduced an innovative AI-powered lens selection guide designed to simplify roadway lighting design. This tool eases the process of selecting optimal optics for road and street lighting projects, addressing the complex challenges faced by lighting designers.
The AI lens guide streamlines the selection of appropriate lenses by considering various factors such as pole distance, mounting height, overhang, road width, and relevant national standards. With a single click, the tool generates three customized recommendations: the most energy-efficient solution, the overall optimized solution, and the solution with the best G-class rating.
The AI tool provides quick and accurate results, especially for those unfamiliar with specific luminaires and lenses. The AI guide serves as a complementary tool to the widely used Dialux lighting design software, enhancing efficiency in the design process.
Developed through a collaboration between Fagerhult’s Optics Development team and Jönköping University’s Department of Computing, the lens guide utilizes over two million data points to create precise AI models. This vast amount of data ensures highly accurate predictions and allows the tool to learn and improve over time.
The AI tool can consider complex scenarios and suggest the best lens for each situation. The lens guide is integrated into the broader Fagerhult Configure platform, which offers a suite of tools for planning and customizing lighting systems. While the current version focuses on two-lane roads, there are plans to expand its functionality to cover a wider range of scenarios.
Accessible to both registered and non-registered users, it is designed not only for lighting experts but for anyone involved in planning and implementing outdoor lighting projects.
The introduction of this AI lens guide demonstrates how AI can enhance design processes and decision-making. By combining vast amounts of data with intelligent algorithms, Fagerhult has laid the groundwork for future advancements in optics refinement, support for complex lighting scenarios, and enhanced customer guidance.
The tool ensures decisions are data-driven and informed by analysis, moving beyond habitual lens choices to optimize lighting solutions. The tool saves time but also can deliver optimal results, empowering designers, engineers, and project managers to make confident, informed choices in road lighting design.
