Samsung To Gradually Exit LED Business By 2030

Samsung Electronics has recently announced its plan to gradually end LED lighting production by 2030. Samsung’s LED business has primarily been divided into illumination devices, TVs, and automotive. First, the company will end production of LED chips for illumination devices by first half of 2026. The TV LED lighting business will wind down by the end of 2026 and be discontinued. Lastly, the automotive LED business will end by 2030.

As the LED business phases out, the company plans to reallocate resources to grow its semiconductor sector. Samsung has struggled to maintain profitability on its LED business in the face of lower-cost Chinese products. China’s LED market has tripled over the past 8 years.
