What You Should Know About ISO 15118

It’s no secret that the lighting industry is increasingly selling electrification products, including EV chargers. The ISO 15118-1:2019 standard, “Road Vehicles – Vehicle to grid communication interface” is one of the most important EV charger standards in the world, today.

The smart charging requirements in ISO 15118 enable matching the grid’s capacity and the energy demand from the growing number of EVs that connect to the electrical grid. ISO 15118 also enables bidirectional energy transfer permitting vehicle-to-grid applications, feeding energy from EVs back to the grid when needed. This standard allows for more grid-friendly, secure, and convenient charging of EVs.

ISO 15118 is a requirement in New York state. It is likely that other states will adopt this standard as well. Much of Europe also requires ISO 15118. Learn more here.
