APPRIME Lighting launched its business in early 2024, and has focused on creating more sustainable luminaires designed for circularity at end of life. Their first two products are an LED troffer and an LED troffer retrofit. Installed, they look similar to most troffers, but inside, both products are designed with a tool-less, replaceable light engine that they call the Modular Relite Chassis (MRC). This chassis contains the LED modules and driver and is designed to be simply and quickly removed to replace the light engine without removing the troffer nor troffer retrofit kit housing (see image above). This design eliminates the need to dispose of the troffer or kit at the end of the light engine’s life.
It gets better. The company offers a MRC take back program that they call their R3 Earth+ Product Sustainability Program. As the luminaire or retrofit kit reaches end of life or requires a performance upgrade, APPRIME will send out a new MRC to easily install into the existing troffer housing or retrofit kit. The company takes back the old MRC, reuses the metal chassis, fasteners, and connectors, and then upgrades the chassis with the latest LED modules and driver. The net result is faster and easier light engine replacement without landfilling the troffer housing, retrofit kit, or chassis plate.
