The US General Services Administration (GSA) announced on July 18th that its Green Proving Ground (GPG) program collaborated with the US Department of Energy (DOE) to select 17 emerging sustainable technologies for installation and evaluation. 2 of the 17 technologies are lighting related:
- A wearable light exposure measurement system from Blue Iris Labs, and
- An LED troffer retrofit with germicidal ultraviolet-C (UV-C) light from Louvers International.
Overall, technologies were selected across four categories: building envelopes and enclosures, healthy & resilient buildings, HVAC, and on-site renewables. Some of the technologies will be tested at GSA’s Applied Innovation Learning Labs to try various combinations of technologies to accelerate the push towards net-zero federal buildings.
Results from this year’s evaluations should be available in 2026, according to GSA. The Green Proving Grounds just released their next Request for Information (RFI) for emerging and sustainable building technologies, on August 1st, last week.
The Inflation Reduction Act includes $975 million for emerging and sustainable technologies, and related sustainability and environmental programs, including the emerging technology evaluations in last month’s announcement. More information on GSA’s Green Proving Ground program is available here.
