Product Monday: The First Emergency LED Tube To Achieve UL 924 Listing

In 2020, I authored an article in LEDs Magazine alerting the industry to the misleading claims of all emergency TLED manufacturers (at that time), that their products were UL listed. Until now, all of the emergency TLED makers were getting emergency TLEDs UL listed as basic retrofit lamps under UL1598C (Type B), but they were unable to achieve emergency lighting UL approval under UL 924. The reason is that UL 924 requires emergency lighting products to be hardwired (“…permanently mounting of equipment shall be provided…”) to their primary power source (i.e. line voltage). All emergency TLEDs, until now, took their power from G13 tombstone sockets and were not hardwired. One of the risks created by those emergency TLEDs is if a building maintenance person replaced a failed emergency TLED with a standard TLED (intentionally or accidentally), the emergency function would be removed, potentially creating life safety risks.

Everything has now changed, with Naturaled introducing the first emergency TLED with UL 924 listing as an emergency lighting product. Naturaled achieved this by simply designing the lamp to be hardwired to line voltage. Problem solved.

Their Emergency Backup LED Tube contains a built-in driver and battery, replacing the need for an external battery backup system. It’s designed to act as a standard LED T8 tube with battery backup capabilities that integrates into existing linear 4-foot lighting fixtures, making it an ideal emergency solution for retrofit applications. Additional features of the lamps include:

  • Instant On / Battery Backup
  • Non-Dimmable
  • Battery: Ternary Lithium Battery
  • 3-CCT-Selectable (3500/4000/5000K)
  • Base: Medium Bi-Pin G13 (powered by hardwiring)
  • 50,000 hours rated life
  • Beam Angle: 210°
  • Operating Temperature: 32°F – 113°F
