The only product at LightFair that caught my eye from over 30 yards away was a self-cleaning solar street light from a Chinese factory called Sresky. The product family is named Thermos, and it is available in a variety of sizes, wattages, and outputs (4,000 – 12,000 lumens).
This product family is also part of the new “hybrid solar street light” category that are capable of operating on solar+battery power alone or auto-switching to grid-connected power. This hybrid feature avoids interruption of functioning during extended periods of bad weather. Avoiding occasional battery outages can provide major reductions in legal liability for municipalities, corporate campuses, or college campuses. Imagine the hybrid grid connection automatically keeping the lights on thereby avoiding a pedestrian, bicyclist, or motorist becoming involved in an accident, injury, or being victimized by a violent crime.
Similarly, the self-cleaning function could also reduce liability from dirt or snow accumulation preventing the solar panel from recharging the battery. The frequency of the self-cleaning function can be programmed to automatically clean the solar panel with a moving brush, up to 6 times per day, maintaining optimum solar charging of the battery. The auto-cleaning brush clears dirt, snow, and rain.
