E Ink Color Changing Pigment And The BMW i Vision DEE Concept Car

Image: BMW

There has been a lot of buzz from CES, last week, about the new BMW concept car, the i Vision DEE. It sports AI, voice assistant, head’s up display, AR, and many other bells and whistles, but what’s really turned heads is its color-changing paint. A mobile app allows the user to electronically change dozens of exterior panels between 32 different colors. This color-changing paint technology is from E Ink, the company behind Kindle.

The written word doesn’t really do this color-changing paint justice. Better to see it in this short CNET video here.

Could there be luminaire housings that change colors in the future? It seems very possible.
