The winners of the fifth edition of the LIT Lighting Design Awards have been announced, with the Acropolis of Athens recognized as the 2021 Lighting Design of the Year.
The LIT Lighting Design Awards was created to recognize the efforts of talented international lighting product designers and lighting implementers. The jury panel included 38 architects, lighting designers, interior designers, academics, and media representatives.
The Acropolis of Athens and Monuments project won the 2021 Lighting Design of the Year. Designed by Eleftheria Deko & Associates for the Onassis Foundation, Greek Ministry of Culture, the new lighting uses color, light intensity, and aiming angles to highlight the beauty of the ancient architecture, the timeliness of sculpture, and pale marble, and the strength of the fortification walls.
The 2021 Lighting Product Design of the Year went to the Opteris chandelier by R3 Consulting Engineers, which pays homage to the Tomopteris, a deep-sea creature. The luminaire really is quite striking.
