Cooper Announces SOURCE Award Winners

Cooper Lighting Solutions announced today the winners of its 43rd annual SOURCE Awards. In a virtual awards presentation, seven university students from around the country were recognized for their creation of conceptual projects that show the understanding, knowledge and functionality of lighting as a primary element in design.

The winning projects were judged on creativity and the selection and application of Cooper Lighting Solutions’ lighting and controls products. Specifically, the conceptual lighting design projects were judged on the blending of aesthetics and creative achievement, with additional considerations of energy efficiency, controls integration, best use of natural light and customization.

The winners of the 2020 SOURCE Awards are as follows:

  • Winner – Stefanie Voinea, Ringling College of Art and Design

o    Project Name: Mini Metropolis

o    Instructor: Seongwoo Nam

  • Honorable Mention – Melissa Santos Romo, University of Texas at San Antonio

o    Project Name: Hidden Spa

o    Instructor: Jae Yong Suk

  • Honorable Mention – Tak Ying Chan, Pratt Institute

o    Project Name: In-Wave Bar

o    Instructor: Michael Zuckerman

  • Honorable Mention – Yin Weng, Ringling College of Art and Design

o    Project Name: Cyber Hub

o    Instructor: Seongwoo Nam

  • Honorable Mention – Emma Burkhart, Appalachian State University

o    Project Name: Tower Restaurant

o    Instructor: Jeanne Mercer-Ballard

  • Award of Recognition – Chloe Harlan, Ringling College of Art and Design

o    Project Name: The House of Sage

o    Instructor: Seongwoo Nam

  • Award of Recognition – Jillian DePinto, Appalachian State University

o    Project Name: “Burdock,” a Turkish Restaurant

o    Instructors: Jeanne Mercer-Ballard, Carol Hall

Winners received a crystal trophy, local and national recognition and an invitation to attend a lighting seminar hosted by the SOURCE, Cooper Lighting Solutions’ premier lighting and educational center located in Peachtree City, Georgia. The grand prize winner, Stefanie Voinea, received a $2,000 award and the honorable mention winners each received a $500 award.
