Louis Poulsen recently announced LED upgrades to more of its most popular luminaires. LED technology has recently also been integrated into PH Snowball, VL45, and Patera, among other pendants in the same size category.
The PH Snowball designed by Poul Henningsen emits comfortable glare-free diffused light. Matte painted under surfaces and glossy top surfaces result in an attractive reflection of the diffused light, creating uniform light distribution around the fixture. When the light is switched on, the top portion is illuminated while the bottom part remains dark.
In 2016, the Radiohus Pendant made a comeback under the name of VL45 Radiohus Pendant. It was originally designed in the 1940s by Danish architect Vilhelm Lauritzen in partnership with Louis Poulsen for the construction of the Radiohuset building (the Danish broadcasting house) in Copenhagen. The
pendant features the original design, with a brass suspension as well as a shade of three layers of handblown glass. The innermost and outermost layers are made of transparent polished glass, while white glass is used for the intermediate layer. In 2019, the two existing sizes are complemented with a smaller size, to open up the possibilities for an even wider variety of usage and arrangements.
Øivind Slaatto’s Patera was first launched in 2015 and has recently launched in a silver version. The design is intended to be a modern take on the classic chandelier, bringing a glowing focal point and soft, dynamic illumination to contemporary spaces. While classic in its form and Danish design principles, the silver Patera takes a bold step away from minimalism.
