LD+A has reported that Dr. James R. Brodrick, program manager for the Department of Energy’s Solid-State Lighting Program, is retiring after 23 years of service.
Brodrick was the architect of DOE’s strategy to accelerate development, adoption, and standardization in LED lighting. More recently, he launched an initiative to examine connected controls.
LD+A writes:
Brodrick’s work has led to changes that have already resulted in significant energy savings, and promise even greater savings in the future. As acknowledged by two National Academy of Science reviews, the DOE SSL Program under Brodrick’s leadership serves as a model federal R&D program for achieving maximum R&D results.
I believe this DOE program made a positive impact in the lighting industry, from R&D support to independently testing products to promoting standardization to supporting consumers.
