Startup Promises to Bridge Gap Between Lighting and IoT

LEDs Magazine recently reported on Ingy, a startup tech firm aiming to support lighting manufacturers in positioning themselves for the IoT world.

Smart lighting promises a platform for Internet of Things development, but Ingy CEO Bastiaan de Groot said there’s a major gap between the promise and reality. His firm aims to match manufacturers and other firms to facilitate technology development and build out new sales channels.

“The normal lighting supply chain of going to specifiers and lighting designers is just breaking down the moment you start going into the IoT route,” said de Groot. “At the same time, the parties that normally do smart building (traditional KNX and LonWorks suppliers, for instance, and newfangled occupancy analytics companies) don’t really understand lighting. So there are two sides looking at it and both thinking, ‘That’s not really my part.’ That gap needs to be bridged.”
