BriteSwitch recently sent out an email identifying four key lighting rebate trends, summarized here:
#1 LED Rebate Amounts Start to Level Out
LED rebates have decreased 10-20% due to price erosion, but in 2018, they seem to be leveling out, with the average prescriptive LED product rebate declining only 1%. TLED and LED HID replacement lamps, however, declined significantly by 19% and 35%, respectively, while LED downlights and linear panels went up 5% and 10%, respectively.
#2 Rebates For DLC Standard vs Premium
About 80% of lighting rebate programs require DLC listing. In 2017, DLC introduced the DLC Premium category with more demanding qualifications and testing. As yet, few programs require Premium qualification, while about 10% of programs offer an extra incentive, typically a $10-20 adder, if Premium products are installed.
#3 Control Rebates Are Strong As Ever
Rebates for controls such as occupancy sensors and daylight dimming are still going strong, with fairly high and consistent rebates. DLC’s new category for networked lighting controls resulted in some rebates last year and more this year.
#4 DLC to Address More Lamp Types and Color-Tuning Luminaires
Later this year, DLC will be finalizing its criteria for several lighting types including 3-ft. tubes, 8-ft. tubes, and Biax/PL-L lamps as well as color tuning luminaires, which may begin showing up in rebate programs in 2019.
