The 2013 New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC) Student Competition is currently under way, with online applications accepted through March 1, 2013 at 12:00 PM and submissions accepted between 7:30 AM and 12:30 PM on March 19, 2013. The awards ceremony, keynote address by architectural historian Joseph Clarke, exhibition and reception will be held March 19, 2013 from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM at the Helen Mills Theater at 135 W. 26th Street (between 6th and 7th Avenues) in New York City.
The theme of the 2013 Student Competition – ILLUMINOTES – implies combining the qualities of illumination with that of musical notes. The New York City Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society (IESNYC) is challenging design students to interpret a musical composition from composer and recording artist Craig Armstrong’s album Piano Works. It is then up to students—all who have been enrolled in a lighting class at a New York City-based college or university—to fabricate their vision in the form of a three-dimensional lighting installation.
The 2013 Student Competition is sponsored by Bartco Lighting and Enterprise Lighting Sales (Platinum Sponsors), OSRAM Sylvania (Gold Sponsor), Philips (Silver Sponsor), Debbas International (Prize Trip Sponsor), and USA Illumination, Universal Lighting Technologies, The Dulanski Group, Nulux and Edison Price Lighting (Bronze Sponsors).
