The Illuminating Engineering Society (IES) has announced its annual conference:
Theme: Building Synapses: Connections in Lighting
When: Sunday – Tuesday, November 11 – 13, 2012
Where: Minneapolis Marriott City Center, Minneapolis, MN
Based on the concept of synapses, which are electrical or chemical connections in the brain, this year’s Annual Conference will investigate the connections between the lighting industry and the surrounding world. Because of constant developments in technology and research, the Conference presentations will show how other disciplines and industries affect lighting and conversely, how lighting affects other industries and disciplines.
The day prior to the conference sessions (Sunday) begins with a welcome by IES President, Charles (Chip) Israel, and the presentation of the IES Illumination Design Awards for 2012.
A two-day conference is planned. The program encompasses topics ranging from politics, education, sustainability and hospitality to agriculture. Divided into research, design, and application tracks, attendees can choose which track to follow. A special workshop has been established for students and emerging professionals to meet with their mentors. Rounding out the Conference presentations are networking breakout discussion groups, exhibits, luncheons, and evening events.
A live presentation will be made of the products and services accepted for the 2012 IES Progress Report. Manufacturers will also be able to reserve a tabletop for their products. The conference concludes with the keynote luncheon speaker, Eleanor Clift, a contributor to Newsweek magazine and the Daily Beast web site. She also appears on the McLaughlin Group.
Conference sponsors include Acuity Brands, Amerlux, Cooper Lighting, GE Lighting, Hubbell, Lutron, Osram Sylvania, Philips, Philips Day-Brite, Philips Lumec, RAB Lighting, Tempo, Tokistar, and Xicato.
