People: John Selander Assumes Presidency of IES for 2010-2011 Term

John Selander, LC, assumed the office of President of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES) effective July 1, 2010. He succeeds Fred Oberkircher, LC, FIES (Emeritus, Texas Christian University).

Selander, Specification Sales Manager, Architectural Indoor for Acuity Brands Lighting, received a BS degree from Michigan State University and a Master of Business Administration from Babson College, Wellesley, MA. He has been a member of the Society for 25 years. During that time he served as a Member of the Board of Managers, Secretary and Vice President of the Dallas Section and as Vice President and President of the Grand Rapids Section (Western Michigan). He is currently a member of the Detroit Section. He has served on a number of Society committees – Merchandise Lighting, Technical Review Council, Office Lighting, Educational Seminars, and Lighting Economics, a committee which he chaired. He is also author of Lighting Economics, an advanced level educational seminar published by the IES.

Selander also served on the IES Board of Directors as Director (1999-2002) and as Vice President, Design and Application (2002-2004). He is a LEED® Accredited Professional; he is certified by the NCQLP (LC – Lighting Certified), and is an EPA Green Lights Surveyor Ally, and a member of IALD-LIRC. He has been a member of BOMA and the CIE/USA.
