In June 2009, the American Medical Association adopted a resolution advocating that “all future outdoor lighting be of energy-efficient designs” and that the AMA “support light pollution reduction efforts and glare reduction efforts.” Specifically, the AMA resolved to support efforts to ensure that streetlights feature a “fully shielded or similar non-glare design to improve the safety of our roadways for all.”
green construction standards enter the national code stage
The highly anticipated ASHRAE Standard 189.1, Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings is slated to be the first code-intended green building standard in the United States. It is expected to be published early this year and contain demanding lighting requirements in its energy section, particularly in regards to controls.

new dc power standard
The EMerge Alliance has announced the release of the EMerge Alliance Standard, a roadmap for adoption of low-voltage DC power in commercial buildings. The Standard establishes a more efficient way of powering the rapidly increasing number of digital, DC-powered devices such as sensors, lighting and IT equipment.
