LIGHTFAIR International Launches Design Symposia

The LIGHTFAIR International educational program is being expanded this year with the launch of the Design Symposia. Making its debut at the May 2010 Las Vegas LFI trade show and conference, the initiative presents four 90-minute symposia in which conference attendees will have the opportunity to learn from industry experts.

The 2010 Design Symposia features:

• Changing the Orientation by 180° at 6500K with Ken Lewis (AIA, LEED AP), president of ac martin: a discussion on achieving a high-performance work environment within an institutional framework by implementing a strategy for sustainability that finds the synergies between light, space, structure and energy.

• Lighting: The Most Important Aspect of Interior Design with Michael Bedner, chairman and CEO of Hirsch Bedner Associates: an in-depth explanation from this renowned hospitality designer on how lighting can make or break an interior.

• Create Iconic Places: Lighting is a Big Player with Mark Rios (FASLA, FAIA), founding principal of Rios Clementi Hale Studios: a presentation on how unique, adventurous lighting solutions can create iconic urban places through the use of standard off-the-shelf products and innovative design.

• Sustainable Design & Architecture in Mexico with Tatiana Bilbao (S.C), president of Tatiana Bilbao/mx.a: an explanation on how Mexico, despite its economic and developmental challenges, could easily jump into more sustainable construction with less access to modern technology.

Together, these symposia present a new educational offering rounding out LIGHTFAIR’s five-day conference and institute series.

The Daylighting Institute and the LIGHTFAIR Institute take place Monday, May 10 – Tuesday, May 11, 2010 and the Conference seminars and symposia occur Wednesday, May 12 – Friday, May 14, in conjunction with the trade show days.
