Building on its UV-A 365DisInFx product line providing microbial disinfection, GE Current’s new UV-C-based LPU puck fixture utilizes patent-pending technology to target the inactivation of airborne viruses with fixtures that are always ON. The product will be available this fall.
Only five inches wide, the fixture is shaped like a smoke detector and installs on the ceiling; a 10-ft. mounting provides approximately 50 sq.ft. of coverage. The light source is LED with a UV-C emission of about 255nm, continually producing germicidal UV radiation that provides aerosol virus (including SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19) inactivation rates of greater than 99% within 24 hours, according to modeling and research currently under testing. Though 255nm, the product is designed for continuous operation in occupied spaces; according to GE Current, continuous exposure is under the limits stated in IEC 62471 Photobiological Safety of Lamps and Lamp Systems.
